Women who work at trimming their waistlines also lower their risk for diabetes and heart disease in the process, says a new Diabetes Care report. By slimming just an inch off their midsection over the course of nine years, a woman's chance of developing metabolic syndrome drops significantly.

Plus, slimming down benefits women who already have metabolic syndrome. Experts found women who lost just an inch were four times as likely to no longer have the syndrome at the study's close—proof that waist size, not just body mass alone, is a good health indicator of a fit female.

Here are three FAST ways to blast away tummy fat:

1. Seesaw. Grab a pair of 5- to 10-pound weights and do side bends to work your oblique muscles. First, stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. Hold a dumbbell in your left hand, palm facing inwards. Keep your back straight and bend to the left as far as you can. Return to the start position. Repeat 15 to 20 times. Switch weight and motion to the right side.
